On utilise souvent ce théorème et son corollaire dans le cas où l'une des deux suites est constante. Par exemple, si une suite <math>(u_n)</math> a pour limite <math>U</math> alors, pour tout réel <math>V</math> :
*si <math>U<V</math>, on a <math>u_n<V</math> à partir d'un certain rang ;
*si <math>V\le u_n</math> à partir d'un certain rang, on a <math>V\le U</math>.
